Summary: A Safe way to warm a room
Comment: The Lasko 34 Inch Tower Heater in an effective and safe way to warm a small to medium sized room. As a few others have mentioned it works better if you are in the line-of-sight of the heater. The Lasko heater will not warm a room immediately, however it does provide a nice gradual warming. One thing to note is that Lasko heater blows warm dry air - therefore you may want to consider adding a small humidifier in the room for operation. We have noticed that if we sleep under the Lasko heater without using a separate humidifier we will wake up with dry throats!
Other things that we enjoy abut the Lasko-
- The heater will turn and rotate over about 120 degree range
- No exposed heating elements so it is relatively safe for young prying fingers.
- Less likely to start a fire than other types of heaters.
- Easy to use timer and thermostat. The timer is adjustable in increments of 1 hour.
Areas for improvement-
- Makes about as much noise as a typical fan.
- Unlikely to warm a large room, since you really need to be in the line-of-sight of the heater while it is operation.
- Not exactly the most attractive thing to have in your room. It looks a little cheap with its excessive plastic trim.
- Shaped a little awkward so it isn't the easiest thing to store (although this is more of a minor concern).
Final Verdict - not a bad choice if you are looking for a safe alternative to traditional space heaters.

Summary: Good Heater Model 5588
Comment: I recently bought this heater at a local store, and am surprised to see some of the negative reviews here. We use it in a bedroom that is above a garage, and has a window that is not very well insulated, so it is a difficult room to keep warm when the weather gets cold.
When I say "cold" weather, I mean below freezing. Not Southern California (Anything below 60F 'cold') The weather outside is below 0F, so that was the primary reason we got it. To help offset the colder sub-zero air leaking into the room. Not sure we would need to run it when temps get above 20F or 30F. If you live in LA, you don't need a space heater.
This heater does a nice job keeping that room (approx 140 sq ft) warm. Haven't tried it in larger rooms, but wouldn't hesitate to do so based on it's performance so far.
It does not beep at all. Ever. Not sure what the reviewer was referring to about the beeping driving his dog crazy.
The air coming out of the unit is HOT on both the Low and High settings. Almost too hot to touch. Not luke-warm. The LOW setting simply runs the fan at a lower, quieter speed.
Even at the HIGH speed, it is not noisy enough to disturb sleep, so suffice it to say, that is definitely quiet enough. The LOW setting is barely audible.
The fan oscillates, so it does more than just warm up the space directly in front of it.
The thermostat works well. Will shut off when temp gets 2 degrees over the set temp, and will turn back on when temp gets 2 degrees below set temp.
It comes with a remote control, but haven't seen a need to use it. I suppose that could really be convenient if it gets too warm in the middle of the night you wouldn't need to get out of bed to adjust the temp, fan speed, or any other function.
Not sure what else to say, except if your particular unit isn't working right, send it back, because this is actually a really good space heater. Especially for the $50 price tag.

Summary: Heats small rooms fairly well, but beeps drive my dog crazy
Comment: Product works fairly well. Does best when placed directly in front of area you're going to be sitting in. Haven't yet found a heater that will heat my entire family room - have tried Vornado, oil-filled heaters, etc. This one is at the top of that bunch and isn't all that noisy, however, it beeps when you plug it in, when you turn it off, when you change the temperature, when you change modes. Whenever you touch a button on it, it beeps. And apparently the beep REALLY bugs my dog, so much so that he leaves the room or asks to go outside if he hears it. Thought this might be useful to other people who have noise-neurotic dogs or children. It's a big enough problem for me that I'm looking for a different heater to replace this one.
