Summary: Great product, fair price
Comment: I bought this 500 GB external hard drive to back up my data, I've had it for a few months and all I can say is that I'm very happy with it. The write speeds are very fast, 500 GB is a lot and I say a fair amount for around $100. The build seems solid enough, although I'm sure there's external hard drives out there with a more solid, compact, space-efficient build with better materials, but this one will do. Very attractive case, I really like the orange light on the side. Powered by an outlet plug, so this is not for those who are looking for externals only powered by USB. I like the software it comes with, the sync features are very useful, good brand name, great product!!!

Summary: A++
Comment: This was a great purchase. It come with software for drive management, and was a great deal for the amount of space. I do wish it could be switchable between Mac and PC but even still great product. highly recommended.

Summary: Good product for small price
Comment: I needed external HDD as data storage (rare usage, I do not use it as "big flash drive").
It was best value for this price.
Only thing - it requires AC power adapter (some external drives can work on USB power), but for home use it is not a big problem.

Summary: Absolute Garbage!
Comment: I have returned no less than 4 of these under warranty. Every single replacement unit I've received has been DOA. What good does the 5-year warranty do if Seagate won't send me a replacement that works? I have given up on trying to get a replacement that actually works. I spent over $30 on postage for warranty returns. I ended up taking apart the most recent one they sent and put the hard drive in a case I bought on ebay for $12 and it worked fine. There seems to be some major power management issues with the enclosures. I will probably never buy a Seagate product again. From now on, I will stick with what has worked for me in the past (Western Digital).

Summary: Very Unstable Design
Comment: This drive has a very poor, bulky, and unstable design. The pictured base does NOT come off and you are forced to stand it precariously on end, which is a big tipping hazard. And lo and behold, if tipped, of course it encounters mechanical hard drive failure which would cost $1000 for data recovery.
